Reception of the client

The client brings his piece of art to the studio and informs us about his expectations concerning the desired result.

Regarding oversized paintings (exceeding 1,5 m2) or highly weakened items, we can make house calls in order to undertake the first observations conducting to drawing up an estimation. Working tightly with specialised companies, we can organise the art works transportation.

Condition report anf diagnosis

A detailed analysis of the art work is carried out in order to identify and localise the major deteriorations. This analysis enable the elaboration of a restoration protocole which is submitted to the client. As a time-consuming procedure, this analysis is carried out in the absence of the client.

The quote/estimation

Our quotes are time-related estimations of the restoration, irrespective of the value of the painting. The restoration protocole just as the estimation of the exact labour time needed for every step permit us to evaluate the quote of the restoration. Generally, we try to propose different ways of treatments, according to the desired result.

Validation of the quote
The client informs us about his decision : if the quote is accepted and the partial payment deposited, the treatments can start. Otherwise, the client retrieves the artwork. Up to this step any commitment has been established between the client and our studio.

The restoration work

The restoration is carried out according to the protocole. We have to be aware that the conseravtion-restoration isn’t a concrete science, thus the materials can react in an unexpected way inducing an alteration of the original protocole.

The duration of the restoration work depends on several criteria, it can last only a couple of days and sometimes several months. This depends essentially on the extend of the restoration, but also of the evaporation and drying time of the used materials.

In some special cases (i.e. monumental sized paintings), we may intervene at the clients place, if the working conditions permit it. However, we prefer to restore in our studio in order to work in the best conditions possible.

Complementary services
We also intervene on frames (cleaning, recreating and adjusting of missing pieces, gilding and patina) and fit the painting in its old or new frame after restoration. We work closely with several framer enabling us to submit new or ancient framing solutions.

Restitution

The restitution of the artworks takes normally place in our studio.
