The frames principal function is to emphasise the painting. Nevertheless, its presence contributes to the artworks protection, i.e. attenuating the impacts.

During restoration we often consolidate the assembly of the bars, mould missing pieces and fill small losses. We re-gild the losses by applying the bole, the gold leaves and a patina.
